Gift Set To Sew for a Baker | Free Printable Patterns
This gift set can be adjusted based on whether or not the recipient has a KitchenAid mixer. If they don’t, you can simply include the bowl cover(s), oven mitt, and potholder.
If the gift recipient does have a KitchenAid Mixer, the cord keeper and sliding mat are handy accessories to have.
The bowl cover can be used for proofing dough (if you use a food-safe, waterproof lining) or simply to keep dust out of the bowl when storing. I also keep my attachments in the bowl when storing, so the cover helps keep those clean as well.
The cord keeper will keep that cord tucked away when storing.
And the sliding mat makes it much easier to move the KitchenAid mixer around on the counter (they’re heavy and don’t slide on their own). Perfect for someone who plans to keep the mixer on their counter all the time, they can simply slide it back and forth for use.
Sew any of the items in matching fabric to create a larger or smaller gift set.

You can also add to this gift set if you want to give a more substantial gift.
You can sew:
- Apron
- Pot pinchers
- Hot pads
- Tea towels
- Bread bag
You could make:
- A dry mixture of your favourite cookie recipe (in a jar with instructions to make the cookies and wet ingredients to add)
- Sourdough starter
- A set of recipe cards with your favourite baking recipes
You could buy:
- Muffin tin or cookie sheet
- Spatula, whisk, wooden spoon
- Set of measuring cups or spoons
- Baking recipe book
- Kitchen scale
Mix and match any of these items and put them in a gift basket, box, or bag to create a thoughtful gift for a baker.
Ruffled Bowl Cover
The photos show my ruffle bowl cover pattern (finished with bias tape), but I also have a bowl cover I designed for the KitchenAid mixer with a velcro tab that fits under the handle. This one is easier to get on the bowl.
Important notes:
-
- Bowl cover size – The medium size in the ruffle bowl cover is the size that fits the KitchenAid Mixer bowl. However, you can sew a small, medium, and large set of these ruffle bowl covers if you want to bulk up the gift (reusable bowl covers are handy to have).
- Bias tape finished – If you want the same look as the one in the picture, I used 1/2″ double-fold bias tape to finish the edges. Instead of sewing the top and bottom layer right sides together, leaving and opening, then turning right side out and topstitching, I placed my top fabric and bottom fabric wrong sides together, sewed my elastic channel, threaded the elastic through, closed the channel, then sewed my bias tape around the circumference of the cover.
- Lining – if you’re sewing this gift set for someone who makes dough, they’ll probably appreciate a food-safe, waterproof lining so that the cover can be used when they’re proofing dough or storing dough in the fridge. This pattern explains how to use the food-safe, waterproof material. If you think they’ll just use the cover as a dust cover, then you can simply use a natural fabric (cotton, linen, etc.) for the top and bottom of the cover.
KitchenAid Mixer Cord Keeper
This is a handy accessory for the KitchenAid Mixer. I keep mine wrapped around my mixer all the time so I can keep the cord tidy when it’s on my pantry shelf. It doesn’t get in the way when you’re using the mixer, and it can be taken off at any time to clean.
KitchenAid Mixer Sliding Mat
Another feature that can be added to this mat is velcro strips. If the recipient is like me and doesn’t store the mixer on their counter, but instead has to pick the mixer up and carry it to the kitchen counter, they may prefer the mat to be secured to the bottom of the mixer.
You’ll need to get a set of round Velcro stickers to attach to the bottom of the KitchenAid Mixer. Then you can sew a couple of strips of Velcro to the top of your mat. So when the mixer is placed on the mat, the Velcro stickers grab the Velcro strips (just be sure to use the Velcro hooks for one and loops for the other. The mat can still be easily removed for cleaning.
Oven Mitt
You can either sew a set of oven mitts or simply sew one in matching or coordinating material (to the other items in your gift set) and pair it with a potholder.
The nice thing about the oven mitt/potholder combo is that the potholder can also be used as a hot pad to set a hot cookie sheet or muffin tin down on.
Potholder
Again, you can sew one of these to be used with one oven mitt, or you can sew a set of two. You can make your potholders with or without the pocket.
The pocket adds more heat protection for the back of the hand and makes it easier to grip a hot cookie sheet, while a potholder without the pocket is easier to grab with one hand and can double as a hot pad.
