Every person who cooks or bakes needs heat protection for their hands. Even if they’re just heating food in the microwave.

This article shares 6 items you can sew to protect your hands when cooking or baking.

1 – Hot Pot Lid Holders

This is a quick and easy project, and these little items are more handy than you may think.

Perfect for grabbing a hot lid when simmering soup or grabbing the handles of a hot pot from the stove.

Pair them with the skillet handle cover for an even more useful set.

2 – Skillet Handle Cover

Cast-iron pans are hard enough to handle when they’re cold, due to their weight. Add a hot handle into the mix, and removing the pan from the stove can be even more difficult.

This simple cover is easy to slide onto a hot skillet handle, and a hot pot lid holder can be used to grab the smaller handle on the other side.

3 – Bowl Cozy

Once you have one of these, you’ll wonder how you lived without it. As long as all of the materials are 100% cotton, this bowl cozy can go right into the microwave so you can get a hot bowl of food out without burning your hands.

And if you’re like me and eat most of your meals on the couch, this bowl cozy allows you to hold a hot bowl of food while you eat.

It can also be used for a bowl of ice cream to keep your hands from getting cold.

4 – Casserole Cozy

Another item that’s not a “need” to have but is “really nice” to have. Take a hot casserole dish out of the oven and set it into a casserole cozy to protect your counters, help keep the dish warm, and allow you to bring that hot casserole dish right to the dinner table.

It’s like oven mitts, a hot pad, and an insulator all in one.

5 – Pot Pincher

These are a cross between an oven mitt and a pot holder. They’re smaller, so they’re easier to store in a kitchen with limited space and make it easy to grip a hot dish.

These do have several layers of batting and use bias tape so they’re more of an advanced sewing project.

6 – Pot Holders

These pot holders have a pocket to help protect the back of the hand and make it easier to grip a hot dish. They can also double as a hot pad to protect a table or countertop.
