About

Hi there! I’m Erin 🙂

I’ve been sewing since I got my first sewing machine in junior high. The first time I used it was to sew panels of fabric into the side seams of my jeans. I hit a pin, damaged the machine, and had to pay to have it repaired.

After that, I decided I should learn more about sewing…which wasn’t as easy to do before YouTube.

Over the years, I’ve taken several in-person sewing classes (including a bra-making class…which turned out to be much harder than I anticipated and I haven’t made a bra since).

In my twenties, I started a handmade business, sewing all-the-things, and it eventually morphed into a handbag business. I grew from selling at small craft shows to having my bags in several stores across Western Canada.

I’ve made all the mistakes in sewing (and continue to make more), as well as in business.

So I’ve started Gathered Seams to not only share some of my tips and patterns, but also to provide information if you’re thinking of starting a business selling your creations.

My handmade business took me from a few extra hundred dollars each month to being able to quit the full-time job that was sucking the life out of me.

But it wasn’t easy.

Having a successful sewing business isn’t a matter of making a bunch of stuff, posting it online or setting up at a craft show, and selling enough to cover your costs, wages, and earn a profit.

It requires strategy.

The information you’ll find on Gathered Seams will help you create that strategy, and the curated patterns will help you develop a product line and brand that attracts shoppers and encourages multi-item sales.

I hope you find the information here helpful, whether you’re starting a sewing business, sewing gifts, or sewing for personal use.

Thanks for stopping by!
